HELLO!

My name is Susanne Schwarz. I am Assistant Professor of Political Science at Swarthmore College, with a substantive focus on American political development, historical political economy and public policy research.

My book project explores the political economy of race and incarceration in the 19th century American South. However, my research interests span a wide variety of topics, including gender-based violence, women in politics, as well as voter mobilization efforts. My work has been published in outlets such as the Journal of Politics, Studies in American Political Development, and Political Behavior.

I received my Ph.D. from the Department of Politics at Princeton University in May 2022. Before I started my doctoral studies, I received a Masters in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where I was a McCloy Fellow, and a B.A. in Political Science from Freie Universität in Berlin.
